Initiative for a cleaner city
Cooperation between the Municipality and professional bodies
In this effort, the Municipality of Limassol found allies in POEM, the Pancypriot Organization of Independent Professional Architects and Civil Engineers. In collaboration with the town hall, members of the organization proceeded to clean walls in the city center and in particular in the area of Pentadromos, covering vandalized spots with graffiti and slogans.
Artistic images in place of vandalism
In place of the worn surfaces were placed large photographs of cities from European capitals, creating a different aesthetic effect in the public space. This section includes a tribute to the Czech Republic, with images that give a more cultural character to the site and attempt to transform a vandalized space into a small outdoor exhibition.
Positive response from citizens
The initiative seems to be gaining positive comments from citizens who pass by the spot every day. "It's really nice to see something different instead of slogans on the walls. Such movements show that our city can become more careful", said a passerby.
Another local resident noted: "Well done to those who thought of it and implemented it. It gives life to the place and makes the street more pleasant for those who walk in the center of Limassol".
The intervention is part of a wider effort to protect the image of the city and enhance the aesthetics of public spaces.
